This week kicks off The Heartland Film Festival’s 22nd year! The event, honoring independent filmmakers and helping to promote the movies they make, has proudly awarded over $2,000,000 to filmmakers since its establishment.
Not only are the 130 films from around the world in this year’s festival phenomenal, but they are all independently made. Some have been shot on a shoestring budget, using friends as actors and apartments for locations.
This year’s selection of films include narrative features, documentaries and shorts, all designed to enlighten, inspire and give you pause to consider what we hold dear as human beings.
I’m a huge Heartland fan. In addition to watching many independent films each year (and you will see me in a theater every night after work), as a Marquee sponsor, I enjoy being a part of the Crystal Heart Awards Gala. That’s where the Crystal Heart awards are presented to the best of the independent films shown during the festival. I designed this award especially for The Heartland Film Festival soon after its launch, and have been involved in the gala ever since.
I hope you will mark your calendar for October 17th through the 26th and support the arts and independent films with me by joining The Heartland Film Society or buying a family pack of tickets and see as many of these marvelous films as you can.
