Pearls make an elegant and timeless graduation gift. Whether you give earrings, a ring, or a gorgeous strand of pearls, you’ve got something to be cherished for a lifetime. That’s because pearls are a core part of a woman’s jewelry wardrobe.
I love pearls for so many, many reasons. First, because they are natural beauties, gifts from the earth. Actually a mineral (calcium carbonate), pearls are formed in layers, within the shell of a mollusk.
Secondly, they come in a huge variety of soft colors, from classic white to pink, silver, black, and even multi-hued.
Pearls may be classics, but they are very hot this year. You’ll see them layered, and in unusual colors. Multi-colored Tahitians are a favorite of mine, more casual than high fashion. I love these beauties mixed with both white and golden South Sea pearls, blending natural earth textures and interesting color mixes. It’s a knock out!
If you are considering giving a gift of pearls to a young lady for her graduation or wedding, allow me to make a suggestion:
A Gellner pearl necklace with an interchangeable clasp. This allows the wearer to change the look of the necklace, doubling, shortening or lengthen the necklace with a twist, providing endless looks. The Gellner clasps themselves are beautiful, and many of them one-of-a-kind.
Once you give a strand of pearls with a clasp, you have a way to add to the gift through the years — with new clasps in 14 and 18k gold or stainless steel, set with a birthstone, diamonds, or precious and semi precious gem stones. It truly is a lasting, and creative gift of love.
Get inspired! Come see my collection of Gellner pearls and pearl clasps, and the many unique clasps of my own design.
